Nannie E. Fields was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Morgan County, Kentucky in 1905. She was the first woman elected in the county. Like many other Superintendents at the time Fields questioned the school trustee system, and recommended that teacher salaries be raised. She also asked that Superintendent salaries be raised to $800 per year. There were eighty districts in Morgan County, which she oversaw.
