Alice M. Gaylord was elected County Clerk and Recorder for Archuleta County, Colorado in 1909. She was elected again to the office in 1911. In 1913 Gaylord was elected County Treasurer, and served in the office through 1918. The local newspaper praised her work in office: "Alice M. Gaylord's work in the county clerk's office stands as a monument to her ability and efficiency. No higher compliment was ever paid a county official than when the auditor of state publicly asserted that she was the most efficient county clerk in the state of Colorado." Gaylord also served as a county visitor for the state board of charities and corrections.
