Tegner, Clara V.

Clara V. Tegner, a Democrat, was elected Yuma County (Colorado) Superintendent of Schools in 1910, 1914 and 1916. In 1916 she defeated the Republican candidate, F. K. Hall. Tegner won a positive reputation for rescuing school records from disarray and creating a system for proper records. She was a teacher active in regional national education organizations who spoke about how to improve rural schools. While superintendent she lived with her father in Wray, Colorado. Around 1920 she movevd with her father to Denver where she was employed by the Denver Public Library. Later, still, she worked as a stenographer.
Her parents were Swedish immigrants. She was born in Kansas in 1882 and died in 1956.
