Elizabeth Walker was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Mesa County, Colorado, in 1895. After marriage and as Elizabeth Walker Hinton, a Democrat, she won election to the office in 1914, 1916, 1918, and 1920. In 1916 she defeated the Republican candidate, Nannie Forry.
