In 1915 Kate Hetherington was a Democratic candidate for Commissioner of Schools in Isabella County, Michigan. On her campaign card Hetherington promised that her"time will belong to Isabella county taxpayers," and that she pledged "conscientious work in the interests of Isabella county schools."
