From collection Candidates
Nellie Corkish, a Democrat, campaigned in 1906 for the office of County Superintendent of Schools for Pueblo County, Colorado. She won the race and was elected to two additional terms in 1908 and 1910. Corkish may have run in the primaries in 1912, but if so she was not the Democratic candidate that year. She did run again as the Democratic candidate in 1916, was defeated by Mrs. Lillie O. Baker, the Republican candidate, who then served the 1917-1918 term of office. During her terms in office Corkish oversaw school consolidation in her district. By 1919 The Colorado Educational Directory (1919-1920) lists her as "educational statistician, " working at the state capitol in Denver. Corkish also served as the head of the Democratic women's committee in Pueblo County.
