Kate M. Lacey was elected to the Columbus, Ohio Board of Education in 1917. As with other women who campaigned for the city Board of Education in the second decade of the twentieth century, Lacey was assisted by the Columbus Equal Suffrage League. She served on the Board for several terms, at least until 1926. During her time on the Board Lacey helped increase musical education in the city schools. As part of her interests in music Lacey managed a musical concert series for the Women's Music Club of Columbus. In 1910 Lacey was a clerk in the County Treasurer's office in Franklin, County Ohio, but by 1918 she was listed as the manager for Quality Concerts in Columbus.
