Dr. Belle Curtis was a Republican candidate who ran for the School Board of Everett, Massachusetts in 1907. Curtis lost in a relatively close race, but ran again in 1908 this time was successful. Prior to election to the School Board, she worked in the school district ensuring vaccinations and sanitary conditions. Curtis graduated from the Womenís Medical College in Baltimore in 1895; one of four women to receive degrees that year. She served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Everett Medical Society. She Her popularity in Everett grew and she later ran unopposed, serving in office from 1909-1912. Curtis married in 1912 and moved out of state.
