Elizabeth A. Hayward was a Democratic and Progressive candidate for the State House in Utah from Salt Lake City in 1914 and 1916. She won both races. While in the legislature Hayward She supported raising the minimum age for workers to 16 years old and shortening women’s work day to 8 hours. In 1918 Hayward was elected to the Utah state senate. She served two terms and was from Salt Lake city. Hayward was active in the suffrage movement in the state and was the legislator who introduced the Nineteenth Amendment in the Utah Senate. She was active in Democratic politics from the 1890s onward and in 1908 Hayward was a Utah delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
