Madge A. Crowner, the Republican candidate, was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Phillips County, Colorado in 1901 and re-elected in 1904. In 1901 she won the race against Addie J. Zimmerman, the Democratic and Populist candidate. In 1912 Crowner considered entering the Republican primary for the office of County Clerk and Recorder. Some in the party were against her nomination.
