Katie L. Mullen was elected to a four year term in 1892 as the first woman to hold the office of Plumas County, California school superintendent. She was a graduate of the State Normal School (San Jose, CA), who started her career in teaching in 1888 in the mining town of La Porte, California. In June 1888 she was appointed a member of the Plumas county board of education.
