Couch, Mary D.
Mary Couch established Oklahoma City's first high school in 1892. She served as a teacher and principal in the city for the next several years. She was elected as Oklahoma County Superintendent of Public Schools in 1899, 1901, and 1903. She then left office for two years, and returned in 1907, the year that Oklahoma became a state.
