Mary Cope was elected Clerk for the District Court of Fannin County, Texas in November of 1906. In a newspaper article Cope claimed that she was running only once, and due to the financial considerations on the death of her husband. In the primary race Cope won more votes than all of her opponents combined. In the general election she received 2,786 votes and her opponent only 460. Cope received more votes than any of the winners of other races that year in Fannin County.
