In 1902 Nancy E. Davidson was elected as County Superintendent of Public Instruction for Kings County, California. Davidson served from 1903 to 1914. She ran for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1914 and received almost 300,000 votes. Davidson was not elected.
