Josephine Conger-Kaneko was a Socialist Party candidate for University of Illinois Trustee in 1912. She ran for this office again in 1914, but was not elected in that race either. The same year she ran for Chicago Alderman from the Sixth Ward, but did not win. Conger-Kaneko was the editor and publisher of the monthly magazine The Socialist Woman, later re-named The Progressive Woman. Conger-Kaneko moved to Chicago in 1912 and continued to publish the magazine for one more year as The Coming Nation. Conger-Kaneko was a reformer who worked within the Socialist Party.
