Berness Bunger, the Democratic party candidate, was elected Superintendent of Schools for Jefferson County, Colorado in 1912. She was re-elected in 1914 and 1916. In 1916 she defeated the Republican candidate, James A. Hogan. Bunger was interested in providing additional support to rural schools in her district. She lived in Golden, Colorado.
