Elvina Beals was a Socialist Party candidate for the California House of Representatives in 1912. She was elected to the School Board of Berkeley, California in the following year. In 1918 Beals was a Socialist candidate for Lieutenant Governor of the state. Two years later she ran unsuccessfully for a U. S. Senate seat from California. In 1922 Beals was a candidate in California's Sixth district for the United States House of Representatives. She lost, receiving 8.4% of the votes cast.
