Othilia G.C. Beals ran for Justice of the Peace in Seattle, Washington in 1918, after serving in this office in her brother's stead in the First World War. She was the first female graduate of the first graduating class at the University of Washington School of Law. She practiced law alongside her father and brother until her marriage. In 1904, she married her classmate, Walter Beals, who became a Justice of Washington's Supreme Court. After the Second World War, Beals served as the presiding judge of Military Tribunal No. 1 of the Nuremberg Trials.
