Mary (or Mattie) E. Williams was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Gunnison County, Colorado in 1898. She served in the office for two terms. Before her election Williams had been hired as the Assistant Superintendent in the county by Superintendent Sarah M. Logan. Williams was defeated by her rival Fannie Burnett in 1901.
