Woodward, Caroline M. Clark

In 1891 the Prohibition party nominated Caroline Clark Woodward as its candidate for state university regent, but she lost that race. Three years later Woodward was the Prohibition Party candidate for Congress from Nebraska's fourth district. Although she led the Prohibition ticket by a large vote. Woodward lost that race as well. She had been a temperance supporter since 1882, writing newspaper articles on the subject.  Woodward was also a member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and served as an officer on the state and national levels. Before her marriage to William W. Woodward 1861, Caroline had taught in the public schools of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
