Sarah Tippett Westerman was first elected the Garfield County. Colorado Superintendent of Schools in 1910. She won re-election in 1912 and 1914. She was elected for yet another term in 1916 in a contest with Republican Bessie Weber. Westerman lived in Glenwood Springs and was involved in local civic work with the Civic Improvement Club, the Tri-City Federation of Women"s Clubs, and the Baptist Church.
