Welch, Miss M.

Miss M. Welch was elected to the school board from Clinton, Illinois in 1892. More than two-thirds of the women in the city voted in that election, making it the largest election yet in Clinton. Two of the other women running for the post were defeated but Miss Welch won by a good majority.
