In 1918 and 1920 Alice McNaught ran on the Democratic Party ticket to represent Multnomah County in the Oregon House of Representatives. In 1918, she won in the primary but lost in the general election. In 1920, she ran unsuccessfully for the same office in the Democratic primary. McNaught ran only in the primaries, not the general elections. She was the president of the Progressive Women's League in Oregon at about this time.
