From collection Candidates
Shortly after Idaho women won full suffrage, in 1898 Naomi M. Phelps ran unsuccessfully, in a four-way race, for State Auditor of Idaho as the Prohibition Party nominee. Two years later the party nominated her for the office of County Representative. Phelps was a well-known evangelist and poet in her adopted state of Idaho. She worked on suffrage campaigns and was involved with the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. After her 14-year old son was convicted of a burglary Phelps worked on reforming the juvenile justice system.
