Prior to taking office, Eva Strickland worked as a teacher at and at one point served as the head of the first schoolhouse in Langtry, Texas. Strickland was elected County Superintendent of Public Instruction for Val Verde County, Texas in 1910. She was re-elected in 1912 and 1914, but resigned in 1914 after getting married and becoming Eva Strickland Anderson. Josephine Jones was appointed to fulfill her duties for the remainder of the term.
