In 1894 March, a resident of Yolo County, California, was nominated for county superintendent of schools. At convention, her party adopted a woman suffrage plank but nominated women only for county level positions. March won the election, the first woman elected to Yolo county public office. From 1894 until 1958 the office of Yolo County superintendent was held by women. By 1897 March had married and was known as Clara March Armstrong. She died suddenly in July of 1897.
