Myrtle Songer was elected County Superintendent of Public Instruction of Jefferson County, Colorado, in 1904. She was elected to a second term two years later. Songer ran in the Republican primary for County Superintendent, but was not elected to the office. She was elected again in 1918 under her married name of Songer-Combs. She divorced the following year, and by 1920 was elected once more under original name of Songer.
