In 1910 Mary F. McEachran was elected Iowa County (Iowa) superintendent of schools. McEeachran served in the office for at least three terms. She graduated from high school and normal school, after which she taught for a number of years in Iowa and Minnesota before being elected to this position. She was a member of the local Reading Club, Woman's Relief Corp, and the Philanthropic Educational Society, an organization dedicated to establishing educational opportunities for female students.
