Mary M. Knight, a Democrat, was elected County Superintendent of Schools in Mason County, Washington in 1900. She was re-elected to a second term two years later. In 1906 Knight was elected to the position once more, and re-election in 1908. Knight returned to the office in 1916, and successfully won another term in 1918.
