Republican Frances S. Klock was elected, at the age of fifty one, to represent Araphoe County in the Colorado House of Representatives in 1894. This was the year after Colorado women won full sufrage rights. She was the first woman to first to chair a legislative committee. Klock had a history of service to Civil War veterans. During her term in the legislature she focused on legislation concerning military and veterans' affairs.
