Vina Katschkowsky was elected County Recorder for Clayton County, Iowa in 1914. Reports at the time stated that she was "elected by a handsome majority", despite the fact that the majority of male voters in Clayton County had voted against extending the vote to women. Katschkowsky had been appointed as an assistant to the previous County Recorder, thus learning the parameters of the position. During her first term in office she was considered "industrious, capable, accommodating, and highly efficient. Katschkowsky was re-elected in 1916.
