Kate S. Bohannan was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Powell County, Kentucky in 1913. There was some discussion over Bohannan's political affiliation as the vast majority of women could not vote for school officers in the state until 1912. One newspaper discussed the affilition of men in her family to discern Bohannan's own political beliefs.
