Haughawout, Margaret E.
Margaret E. Haughawout was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Fillmore County, Nebraska in 1918. Haughawout was educated at Hasting College and the University of Nebraska. Before her election she served as faculty as various institutions and then as Dean of Women at Knox School for Girls in upstate New York. Haughawout returned to teaching at various universities after serving as county superintendent through 1923. A published author she often wrote under several pseudonyms. After wearing men's cloithing for teaching, in researching an article on the subject of clothing, Haughawout's contract with Kansas State University was not renewed in 1933. She traveled in Europe and returned to teaching during World War II.
