Mary Florence Olmstead
In 1890 Florence Olmstead was elected as the first woman in Butler County, Kansas to serve as County Superintendent of Schools.  She was active with the Alliance party, which had nominated her for the office. Olmstead wrote songs for the Alliance party which were sung by Alliance Glee Clubs of women at party events and campaign stops. Olmstead died in 1892.
