In 1908 Rebecca V. M. Berens (also known as Mrs. Bernard Berens) was a candidate for the School Committee of the ninth ward in Philadelphia. She was nominated by the Republicans, Democrats, and the City party, but did not win a seat. Berens ran again two years later and was elected to the same office.
