Susan W. Janney
In 1906 Susan W. Janney was elected as School Director of the ninth ward School Committee in Philadelphia. Janney had been the principal of a private school in the city and involved in education for many years. In 1902, Janney, a Quaker, had served on the Education Committee for the Friends General Conference and also headed the Equal Rights for Women Committee of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. The American Peace Society appointed her as one of the delegates to the Eighteenth International Peace Congress in Stockholm in 1909.
