Belle Sales ran unsuccessfully on the Socialist Labor Party ticket for University of Illinois Trustee in 1896, winning only 0.04 percent of the vote (1,328 votes cast). In 1898 she ran again. She did not win, polling 4,511 votes (0.17 percent of votes cast).
