In 1896 Laura G. Hoopes was a Municipal League candidate for School Director of the ninth ward school committee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hoopes was a member of the Female Association of Philadelphia for the Relief of the Sick and Infirm Poor and the Philadelphia Woman's Exchange.
