Fannie Spaits Merwin was elected in 1910 as Mason County, Illinois superintendent of schools. She was active in the Illinois State Teachers Association. Fannie Merwin was born in Mason County, Illinois, attended school, and then taught for many years. In 1903 she married Frank Merwin, a pharmacist who traveled for his work.
