In 1883 Alice M. Junken was elected County Register of Deeds for Dickinson County, Kansas. She was re-elected two years later, running against independent candidate Mary E. Leming. In the 1880 federal census Junken was listed working as a scribe in the Register of Deeds office. In 1883 there was vigorous local debate over Junken's eligibility for the county office.
