Mrs. S.H. Plummer was elected to the school board from Mount Vernon, Illinois in 1892. She, along with Mrs. N.H. Morse was elected by over a majority of 150. About 250 women voted in this election. They had both been nominated as members at a women's convention held in Mt Vernon for this purpose.
