Jessie Amelia Parker (Gertje) was elected mayor of Kendrick, Idaho in 1898 at the young age of 22. She was married to George Gertje in December 1898, upon which she took his last name.

Mattie L. Hicks, the Democratic candidate, was elected the town treasurer of Rico, Colorado in 1898. She ran in 1899 as the Democratic candidate was elected again. Hicks was elected to a third term in 1901 and again the following year.
