Mary F. Shelby, a Democrat, was elected as County Recorder of Rich County, Utah in 1896. She moved to the county seat to better serve in her office. During her tem she gave birth to her ninth child. Shelby was a Democratic party activist, serving as First Vice President of the Rich County organization, and was part of the permanent party. She served one term in office and later served as a precinct chairman. Shelby died in 1910 from cancer.
