Josephine Taylor, a Republican, is elected as County School Superintendent for Elko County, Nevada in 1890. She is one of the first women in the state elected to a county-wide office. Before her election Taylor had been a teacher in the county schools. As superintendent she supported a "free and unlimited" education for the children of the state and uniform examinations for all teachers in the state. By 1895 Taylor was listed as a member of the Honory Board of Visitors for Nevada State University.
