From collection Candidates
Mary A. Pryor was perhaps appointed to complete her husband's term after his death 1887, as County Superintendent of Schools for Lincoln County, Washington. In the elections of 1888 Pryor, a Republican candidate, was successfully elected. However, in 1890 the Lincoln superior court ruled that women were ineligible to hold school offices. Women were elected in other counties in the state. In 1892 Pryor ran as a Democrat for the same office in Douglas County, but was defeated by the Peoples party candidate.
