Christina McKay Bennett was appointed as the first County Superintendent of Schools for Adams County, Washington in 1883. The following year she was the Republican candidate for the office and won her race. Bennett was re-elected in 1886. As an early educator in the county Bennett was given credit for establishing the public school system there.
