Belle Blazer, a Republican, was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Meagher County, Montana in 1888. The following year, with Montana's entry into the Union as a state, Blazer ran again, but was defeated by the Democratic candidate, Neta Sutherlin. Blazer tried once more to regain the office, and ran as the Republican candidate in 1892. She was again defeated by the Democrat, Leona Baker.
