In 1884 Alice M. D'Arcy was the Democratic candidate for County Superintendent of Schools for Meagher County, Montana. She won the race against, the Republican incumbent, Alice S. Nichols. D'Arcy ran for a second term in 1886, but lost to Bessie Ford, the Republican. When Ford resigned from the office to become the County Superintendent of Cascade County, Montana, D'Arcy was appointed to fill the remaining term.
