Hassell, Susan Whitcomb

Susan Whitcomb Hassell, from Redfield, South Dakota was nominated to the post of State Superintendent of Public Instruction by the state Independent Convention in 1892. A Grinnell graduate, she served as the principal of Redfield College, which she had helped establish, for six years. She also served as the Dean of women at the South Dakota University. Hassell also served as secretary and state auditor of the State Federation of Women's clubs of Washington.
