Alice Walker
Alice Walker was elected as County Superintendent of Schools for Mono County, California in 1874. She served in the office until 1877 and on the school board for many years. Walker was one of the first school teachers in the area, and served on the local board of education. She married David Hays in 1876. In 1915 Hays was elected as County Superintendent of Mono County. She succeeded her daughter, Cordelia Hays Dolan, in the position.
